We want Sentralen to be an open, inclusive, and accessible space for everyone, and we are therefore actively working to improve our accessibility. You can read about the measures we take to ensure that everyone feels safe in knowing they can visit us here.
Do you have any feedback, questions, or comments about our accessibility work? Call us at +47 22 47 25 00 or send us an email at post@sentralen.no. We greatly appreciate anyone who can help us become a place where everyone feels safe to visit!
General accessibility
Access
Sentralen’s main entrance is located at Øvre Slottsgate 3. The nearest public transport stops are Stortinget for the subway, Øvre Slottsgate for trams, and Wessels plass for buses. There is an elevator at Stortinget subway station (the elevator facing Øvre Slottsgate is currently unavailable due to construction work – please use the exit to Lille Grensen). Some trams stopping at Øvre Slottsgate are wheelchair accessible. You can read more about accessibility on Ruter’s website here.
It is possible to stop outside the main entrance to Sentralen for unloading and loading. However, parking outside Sentralen is not allowed, as the street is designated as a pedestrian zone. We do not have any parking spaces, but there are several parking options in the area. The nearest accessible parking space is at Tollbugata 27, 55 meters from the main entrance.
Both the reception, café, and restaurant Hitchhiker are accessible via an elevator. To reach the reception, enter the main entrance at Øvre Slottsgate 3 and take the elevator to floor 1+. From here, there is step-free access to the café. To reach the restaurant via the elevator, you need an access card, so please notify the reception on floor 1+ or call +4741417930 for assistance.
In the reception, we have an elevator to all floors of the building.
Accessibility in the building
Sentralen is universally designed. All public areas are accessible by wheelchair. We have door openers to all public areas, but these are not automatic. The main entrance has an automatic door opener.
The handrail in the stairs is red, making it highly visible for people with visual impairments.
All stairs are marked with tactile bumps and anti-slip tape, and all glass doors are marked with film. The contrast between the film and the glass door is not very high.
The floor strips in the building are relatively low, so they are easy to pass over with a wheelchair.
Companion tickets
We strongly encourage all of our organizers to offer companion tickets for their events. Purchase a ticket and send an email to post@sentralen.no with your companion certificate, and you will receive a companion ticket(s). If you need more than one companion ticket, you will receive one ticket per companion.
Toilet facilities
We have toilets on all floors, including accessible (HC) toilets. The HC toilets do not have automatic door openers. There are changing tables in the HC toilets on the U, 1+, 3, and 4+ floors.
Food and allergies
All food served at Sentralen, whether in the café, restaurant, or at events, is labeled with allergens. We cannot guarantee that cross-contamination does not occur. Please contact us at mat@sentralen.no if you have any questions about our food service.
We do not have carpet flooring in our public areas.
Safety
All emergency exits are marked with green emergency exit signs, and the fire alarm is connected to emergency lights that will light up and show the way in case of a power outage.
We do not have an evacuation chair.
The induction loops are connected to the fire alarm.
Induction loop and interpretation service
We have a mobile induction loop system available for use in all our rooms. Click here to book interpretation services through Oslo Kommune.
Please notify us at booking@sentralen.no if you require interpretation services, as this must be coordinated with the room’s capacity.
Lowered bar/counter
We do not have a lowered bar/counter at Sentralen.
Content warnings for events
Sentralen hosts a variety of events and organizers, so we may not always be aware of content warnings for individual events. We encourage all our organizers to submit information about content warnings so we can inform the public in our event program.
If you have questions about a specific event, we recommend contacting the organizer directly. You can find the organizer’s details at the bottom of the event program.
Guide dogs
Guide dogs are always welcome at Sentralen, including in the serving areas.
Taxis
The nearest taxi stand is at Bankplassen, 450 meters from Sentralen. We have screens in the reception where you can order a taxi to be picked up outside the main entrance.
Seating
We have seating in most of our public areas, except in the cloakroom on the U floor, the foyer outside Marmorsalen on 1+, and outside the meeting rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
If you're attending an event and wondering about seating, please email us at post@sentralen.no.
Lighting
There is generally good lighting in the building, but some public areas may have reduced lighting. This applies to Vinterhagen, the foyer outside Marmorsalen, and the foyer outside Forstanderskapssalen.
Acoustics
The building generally has good acoustics. However, the public areas in the foyer outside Marmorsalen, the Marmortrappen, and the foyer outside Forstanderskapssalen and Gullbaren do not have as good acoustics.
Language
Most of our events are held in Norwegian, unless otherwise specified.
Do you need information about interpretation services? See the section on "Induction loop and interpretation service."
Our staff
If you have any questions or concerns while visiting us, feel free to ask one of our hosts. We are ready to assist you with anything you may need. If you can't find a host, you can call us at +4741417930.
RELÆXT events
In collaboration with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, we organize RELÆXT concerts. These concerts are quiet and are held in Marmorsalen. They last for 45-60 minutes, including an introduction and presentation of the pieces by the host.
Anyone can attend a RELÆXT concert, but the experience is especially tailored for those who feel more comfortable attending or require a cultural experience in a relaxed environment.
Read more about RELÆXT concerts here.
